PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF LEWISTOWN, CITY MANAGER HOLLY PHELPS

The City of Lewistown will be implementing of Governor Bullock’s directives throughout the City to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as practicing social distancing, disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces throughout the day, and encourage frequent hand washing. We have also asked all employees to stay home if they are feeling sick and encourage the public to do the same.

All essential services will remain open and employees will remain at work to provide service to the public. The Civic Center and Library are closed to the public at this time. The closure of the Civic Center and Library will be evaluated on a weekly basis based on recommendations from the Public Health Department and the City Manager. The well-being of our customers and staff is a top priority of the City of Lewistown.

At this time the Water and Sewer department is still expecting users to pay their bills in a timely manner. As a result of COVID-19 the City of Lewistown will not be disconnecting services for delinquent utility accounts through April 30, 2020. However, it is still important to communicate with the water and sewer department to discuss your situation. If there is no communication between the City of Lewistown and the customer no future payment arrangements will be allowed. For your convenience you can pay your water and sewer bill in several ways:

  • - The City accepts credit and debit card payments over the phone. Please call 406-535-1760.
  • - There is a drive-up depository available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  • - You can continue to mail your payments to 305 W Watson, Lewistown MT 59457

At this time the following has been decided to encourage social distancing:
All City advisory board and committees’ meetings are cancelled through April 30, 2020.

City Commission meetings will continue to be held with the following expectations. During Commission meetings, occupancy of the Commission meetings will be limited in accordance with the recommendation of the CDC. If occupancy at a meeting is greater than the recommended or dictated, the City will accommodate individuals in a manner that will allow them the opportunity for public comment in a rotating manner. The public is encouraged to submit written comments via email to nbrummond@ci.lewistown.mt.us or by mail to the City Clerk, City of Lewistown, 305 W Watson, Lewistown MT 59457, rather than physically attend meetings. Any written comments received after the packet has been disbursed, but prior to the state of the Commission meeting will be read aloud at the meeting by the City Clerk

Two final thoughts
It’s important to remember that this is a very fluid situation. Changes to these or other guidelines issued by the City of Lewistown, the Public Health Department, the State of Montana or CDC may have to be made depending on the circumstances.

Please be patient and kind to one another. This situation is new to most (if not all) of us – and it’s pretty nerve racking. We don’t know of all of the possible situations that could arise. We don’t have all the answers. We can only hope that we are making decisions that will keep our employees and their families healthy and safe.
